Light up the night for New Year’s Eve!
Dublin’s magical People’s Procession of Light through historic Dublin city is back! This free, fun-filled, fantastical, family-friendly event will light up the city streets and everyone is invited to join on the journey, making the capital the brightest it has ever been. The theme this year is: “The light is on, come on in!”
The procession, which begins at 6.30pm, will be led by LUXe, Ireland’s leading specialists in creative, imaginative and illuminated processions, with a sparkling cast of street performers and costumed characters. Joining them will be Fidget Feet, the country’s top aerial dance theatre company.
You don’t have to simply stand and watch – everyone is urged to be part of this spectacle doing your bit to light the way into 2014 in a unique fusion of professional performance and public participation
You can sign join one of the free family lantern workshops on the 29th, 30th or 31st to make your own lantern (limited capacity – sign up now) or simply grab a torch!
Or simply stand back and enjoy seeing Dublin illuminated with dazzling light displays, music and dance. Around every corner there will be something new: you will be accompanied by theatrical lantern bearers and colourful delights, serenaded by buskers and entertained by surprise impromptu magical moments. From St. Stephen’s Green to South William Street the eclectic mix of artisan shops, cafés, galleries, restaurants and theatres will provide a vibrant and dramatic backdrop for a wonderful river of light.
And for the first time ever in the history of Irish public parades the People’s Procession of Light will make its final leg of the journey along Dublin’s iconic Grafton Street, where a magical finale to the year of The Gathering 2013 will take place.
